A little bit of history…

We are a group of  volunteers living in the UK, working to help people with autism in Poland. The first of our goals is to aid a Polish organisation called SPOA – in English, the Association for Assisting People with Autism – in their project of building the first community based group home for autistic adults in Gdansk.

SPOA was founded in Gdansk in 1991 by Arkadiusz “Aram” Rybicki and Malgorzata Rybicka, whose son Antoni was born with autism.

SPOA has developed and provided care, education and occupational activities for people who suffer from autism by developing community centres. There are now community centres for children and young people  with autism across Poland but there are no homes where adults with autism can live when their parents are no longer able to look after them, where they can also continue to learn and develop their skills, with support in the community.  That is why SPOA  has now decided to build the first community based  home for adults with autism; we want to help them achieve this goal . The project is under the patronage of Anna Komorowska, wife of Bronislaw Komorowski, President of Poland.

The home is to be named after Arkadiusz “Aram” Rybicki, who died tragically in the Smolensk air crash  on April 10th 2010.

On April 10th, 2014, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk laid the foundation stone on the site where the community home is being built.

What we are working towards…

We are aiming to raise £100,000 to aid the building of the community home for autistic adults project and help people with autism in their education and development there.
